Advantages of sea freight transport
The main advantages of sea freight transport are the cost, which is lower than in other modes of freight forwarding; distance flexibility allowing freight to be transported over a much larger distance than by road; versatility – the freedom to carry the most diverse types of goods; load capacity, which in the case of sea freight is significantly higher than for other modes of transport.
Always on time
In addition, sea freight is not affected by road repairs, congestion or other obstacles that commonly occur, for example, in road freight. This is why sea freight usually takes place without significant deviations from the original scheduled completion dates.
Types of sea freight transport
Ursus Forwarding offers the following types of sea freight services to customers on a daily basis.
FCL - Full Container Load
This refers to shipments where the cargo carried takes up the entire container. If you would like to carry bulky cargo which requires the entire container, you will need a full container load (FCL) sea freight, which means that your cargo will be loaded and transported in a separate container for your cargo only.
Oversized (outsize) cargo freight
One of the advantages of sea freight is the relatively low cost, and sea freight is therefore often used to transport bulky outsized goods. In practice, it is usually used for carriage of various equipment, agricultural machinery, industrial machinery and spare parts.
Refrigerator freight forwarding
Simply speaking, refrigerated containers are large refrigerators carrying goods which require the maintenance of a controlled temperature. This type of container is mostly used to transport goods such as meat, fruit, fish, dairy products, flowers, medicines and other goods requiring a controlled temperature mode.
LCL - Less than Container Load
This refers to freight where several cargoes are transported in the same container. If you would like to carry a small volume of cargo, you need consolidated container cargo or LCL sea freight where the cargo will be carried in one container together with other small loads to fill the entire container.
Carriage of hazardous (ADR) cargo
Sea freight serves for the carriage of different types of hazardous (ADR) cargo. The transportation of such goods requires careful preparation by selecting suitable packaging for the cargo and correctly labelling the cargo. Sea freight is often used to carry petroleum products, various types of chemicals, gases, etc.
Liquid freight
Sea freight of liquid products is carried out using tanks or tank containers, of which there are several types, which are used depending on the nature of the cargo being carried. Liquid sea freight containers are usually used to transport foodstuffs, wines and spirits, oils, chemicals, gas, fuel, etc.
Oceans and seas cover 71% of the Earth's surface, and it is natural that sea freight is very popular, highly demanded and widely used around the world. Sea freight is also one of the oldest modes of transport used well before the development of road freight and air freight industries. Using ships, merchants from different parts of the world could bring their goods to foreign markets and bring home the goods purchased in distant lands.
Today, sea freight has developed to become an enormous industry that ensures the movement of goods between all continents of the world. Thanks to the development of shipbuilding, the ships sailing the seas and oceans of our planet are becoming ever larger and more spectacular.

The largest container cargo ship today has a capacity of 21,000 TEU (20-foot equivalent units). Sea freight is mainly carried out using sea containers. The most common of these are 20- and 40-foot containers, which are very useful because the container serves as an enclosure that reduces the risk of cargo damage and facilitates and speeds up loading and unloading.
